NYT John Burns on Saddam trial

The NYT's John Burns reports on Iraqi government plans to try Saddam. He reports that the Iraqi government wants to speed up the process, concentrating on a smaller number of cases it believes are sufficiently well documented to show crimes against humanity, murder, and so on - and connect them to Saddam. This is in contrast to the strategy urged by US advising lawyers, who wanted to slow holding the trial until 2006 to develop a broader case and to have it follow cases of other senior officials in order to build up a pattern of command responsibility. It now appears that the Iraqi government plans to go forward with a trial in the coming months, rather than waiting until next year. Read the article here. It's a good piece.
